The Jefferson School African-American Heritage Center will expand the educational opportunities in the arts for our community. Its permanent and temporary exhibitions will celebrate the accomplishments, past and present, of African Americans. It will house an Arts and Language Academy that offers instruction in the performing (dance, music and theater) and visual arts as well as various languages spoken throughout the African diaspora. Through lectures, performances, film series and its various other programs it will involve a multi-disciplined approach and encourage life-long learning.

The City's Carver Recreation Center will provide the community with a node of activities, including a fitness room and programs, movement, dance, gymnastics, arts and crafts and a gymnasium. The large multi-purpose room and catering kitchen will provide a meeting place for community events. A wide variety of enrichment classes, programs, and events will also be available.

JABA will offer an intergenerational program of activities for the community. The JABA cafe will offer local, healthy meals at affordable prices. Information and assistance with any issues related to aging and a health services clinic will be available.

Common Ground Healing Arts will provide affordable yoga, community acupuncture, massage therapy, herbal medicine, and counseling services at the Jefferson School on a sliding fee scale to ensure that no one is turned away due to inability to pay. Their mission is to empower community members to take charge of their health and well-being.

Literacy Volunteers of Charlottesville/Albemarle provides free, individualized tutoring to illiterate adults who live and/or work in our area. Through partnerships with other Jefferson School tenants, the volunteers intend to expand the program delivery to help even more of the staggering 9,000 estimated illiterate adults in our community.

Martha Jefferson Hospital is excited to use the space at the Jefferson School City Center to provide a wide variety of services that will help improve the health of our community. A Nurse Practitioner will work in conjunction with the Director of Community Outreach to develop specific outcome-based programs designed to help give children a strong start in life, prepare them for school and encourage and reinforce healthy life decisions. Health screenings for people of all ages will also be offered and the hospital will provide space for a satellite office for the Women's Initiative. With each program, Martha Jefferson's focus will be on safety and our commitment to quality care and exceptional service.

The Piedmont Family YMCA is a family-focused community organization open to all that promotes, educates, and provides for healthy and wholesome lifestyles of body, mind & spirit. At the Jefferson Center, the YMCA proposes to operate a licensed child day care, including infant care, and toddlers through pre-K. Daily programming opportunities will provide for planned interaction and joint participation with the seniors/older adults enrolled at the JABA Center.

Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) will establish an education center at the Jefferson School and develop an associate degree program in culinary arts and food service management and also plans to offer general education courses and workforce development programs during both the day and evening hours.
